WALTER & WILD
(AUCKLAND)
Newly formed New Zealand
company Walter & Wild Ltd has
purchased three companies during
2018 – Hubbard Foods, Hansells
Food Group and Gregg’s Table
Sauces – bringing a suite of iconic
New Zealand brands under the one
umbrella. “The bringing together of
Hubbards, Hansells and Gregg’s
Sauces under Walter & Wild
combines some of New Zealand’s
best-known food brands into a food
manufacturing powerhouse,” owner
Harry Hart – son of billionaire Kiwi
Graeme Hart - says. Leading brands
in the portfolio include Alfa One,
Aunt Betty’s, Hansells, Vitafresh,
Vitasport and Coconut Collaborative;
Hubbards’ mueslis and cereals; and
Greggs table sauces. The company
has also purchased the licenses
for the supply of Gregg’s tomato,
barbeque and steak sauces, and
ketchup, as well as the F. Whitlock
& Sons Worcestershire sauce in
New Zealand, as part of a required
divestment undertaking from Heinz
Wattie’s. Hart and his team will
build on the brands’ heritage and
successes and significantly invest in
their future.
RJ’s (LEVIN)
Kiwi confectionery company RJ’s
has taken over the manufacture and
production of Jaffas from Mondelēz
International, meaning the iconic lollies are
being made at RJ’s sister company Darrell
Lea’s factory in Sydney until production is
returned to New Zealand when capacity
is increased in the company’s Levin
factory. RJ’s is producing the Jaffas under
a licence agreement with Mondelez, and
sales director Amy Law says consumers
should not notice any taste difference.
“It’s really important to try and keep
iconic brands in New Zealand,” Law says.
“Jaffas have been around for a long time
so what we want to do is keep that brand
here.” RJ’s was set up 23 years ago by
Law’s father Roger Halliwell and is now
owned by Australian investment company
Quadrant Private Equity. The company
announced earlier in the year that it had
signed a conditional agreement to take
over a few New Zealand brands - such
as Heards, Fabulicious, Oddfelows and
Mackintosh - from Nestle.
