Neide Durello was born and raised in the countryside of Brazil, of Italian origins. She was one of nine
children, which made her soon realise that love and affection combined with good food were essential
ingredients for shared moments of happiness within the family. At the early age of 14, the young Neide
was chosen by her mother to help in the kitchen, and that was where it all started. She was instantly
hooked by the pleasure of preparing very simple food with extraordinary flavours. These days, family
team Marcelo and Barbara use Neide’s traditional recipes to introduce New Zealanders to a whole new
concept of Brazillian delicacies made with the same care and dedication.

winner is Missy for her outstanding lawn mowing abilities, and that offers a glimpse into the caring and appreciation that
the company holds for its Awassi and East Friesen sheep. Nestled in the Neudorf Valley overlooked by the Mt Arthur
range, Thorvald produces sheep milk yoghurt and cheeses from its handpicked robust, healthy and happy sheep –
developed by the company’s food technologist and cheesemaker, and the jarl (man of noble birth) who loves to explore
how old traditions can be rediscovered and reinterpreted in a local context! The company won two gold, two silver and a
bronze at this year’s Champions of Cheese awards.
