Grape juice supplier Welch’s Global Ingredients Group has embarked on a foray into the wine
industry. The company has launched a Niagara grape juice solution that is designed to be a
cost-effective but high-quality filler or base wine for a broad variety of different wine styles.
The Niagara grape is a white grape with a golden hue, and R&D specialists have developed
a de-characterised version of the juice that is perfect for fermentation and blending with wine
made from more traditional wine grape varieties and even other fruits. Juice grapes typically
sell at a significantly lower price when compared to wine grapes, which means the new decharacterised
Niagara is a perfect option for winemakers looking to reduce raw material costs
without impacting quality. Welch’s also supplies Concord grape juice to the wine production
sector. Vice president Kevin Kilcoyne says “we’re excited to be expanding our capabilities to
provide a cost-effective ingredient solution for the winemaking industry. This will be an important
market for us going forward, and we have further winery-specific innovations in the pipeline.”

DIMODAN HP 90-M FROM DUPONT
OXYBEAM BY
WITT-GASETECHNIK
As one of the leading international specialists in modified atmosphere packaging
for many applications including food and beverages, Witt-Gasetechnik has
released a new gas analyser Oxybeam, a table-top device that harnesses infrared
laser light to detect the oxygen concentration in MAP packaging. Advantages
include packaging that is not damaged during testing; the residual oxygen
concentration is accurately displayed on a touchscreen in steps of 0.1%; the
Class 1 laser does not require the operator to wear eye protection and only needs
a small viewing area into the packaging interior; the O2 analyser is equipped
with a USB/Ethernet interface and can be operated within a gas temperature
range from 5 to 40°C; and repetitive measurements over a pre-determined time
period are also possible using the Oxybeam non-destructive detection test. The
company’s mobile O2/CO2 gas analyser Oxybaby is now even more user-friendly,
and the Leak-Master Easy package leak detector - which functions using a waterbased
bubble leak test - is now available in two additional, more compact test

NIAGRA GRAPE
JUICE SOLUTION
Danisco ingredient range
DuPont Nutrition & Health has developed a new, naturally sourced monoglyceride emulsifier that
brings food manufacturers improved production and handling efficiencies. Monoglycerides are
among the most widely used emulsifiers in the food industry, but they can become lumpy under
certain conditions. Many food manufacturers face a challenge with product flowability when
using powdered, in-homogenous emulsifiers. This led DuPont Nutrition & Health to develop the
unique beaded format of DIMODAN HP 90-M – a homogenous emulsifier that enhances food
manufacturers’ productivity. DIMODAN HP 90-M from the DuPont Danisco ingredient range comes in
a beaded format that helps reduce lump formation, resulting in better product flowability. In addition,
dust formation is significantly reduced during production, leading to improved safety and health
conditions for the handlers. “Our beaded format is coarse with more homogeneous particles that
prevents lumping and increases flowability,” regional product manager Sun Ligong says. “This brings
a number of enhancements to the production and shipping stages for our customers who now have
products with more consistency.”
