EQM has come to the rescue several
times during this year’s post-harvest
period as food facilities under
pressure to pack fruit and produce
and get it off to market reported
equipment failure. In many cases, the
equipment failure could have been
prevented by acknowledging that
the affected machinery was past its
use-by date and at a higher risk of
breaking down…causing unwanted
and costly production downtime.
EQM’s Anthony Bloxham says some
businesses are wary of capital outlay
for new equipment or a complete
new packing and processing system.
But if the existing equipment is very
old, parts can become an issue,
and an upgrade has the potential to
increase productivity and efficiencies.
“Being ahead of the game with
preventative maintenance and
ensuring replacement equipment
such as motors, gearboxes and
bearings, are either held as spares or
readily available is key to preventing
production downtime,” he says.
“We see a lot of older motors and
gearboxes that need replacing. A
positive that can come from replacing
these older geardrives is being able
to use newer technology, such as the
high performing stainless steel and
aluminum motors and drives which
increase performance significantly.”
EQM has also put in place ‘EQM to
the Rescue’, where customers can
take a photo of the failed geardrive
and its nameplate, then email it to
the company which will respond with
the best solution to get them up and
running as quickly as possible. There
is also the ‘EQM Service Guardian’
package which provides further peace
of mind and installation support,
should a permanent replacement not
be sourced within 48 hours.
