GOT CHEAPER WITH ATLAS COPCO
In April this year Atlas Copco brought
together more than 900 of its employees
from 68 countries around the world for
the Smart AIR Solutions global product
launch in Antwerp. Smart AIR Solutions
are complete air or gas solutions that
are designed to combine compressors,
blowers and boosters with quality air
solutions such as air dryers, coolers,
nitrogen generators, filters or energy
recovery solutions…fully optimised to
operate together in the most efficient
and reliable way.
Altogether 12 fantastic new products
were launched during the week-long
event, with the icing on the cake being
the latest addition to the class-leading
oil-free screw compressor range - the
ZR 90-160 VSD+, offering ISO class 0 air
quality and manufactured to ISO22000.
This new compressor range is a giant
step ahead in compressor technology,
which is immediately apparent when the
canopy is opened. There are now two
VSD motors being driven through two
separate VSD controllers. By optimising
the speed and pressure of each compression
stage, the new compressor can
deliver up to 35% energy savings - for a
very fast return on investment.
“The drive design of the ZR 90-160
VSD+ incorporates Atlas Copco’s most
sophisticated Variable Speed Drive
(VSD) technology: Atlas Copco designed
NEOS drives combined with permanent
magnet motors,” business line manager
Chris Hepworth says. “The dual motor
concept with a smart control algorithm
allows both elements to be run at different
speeds, which optimises efficiency.”
If the new ZR range is the icing on the
launch cake, then the new MDG dryer is
definitely the cherry on the top, he says.
The all-new ZR compressor is available
with an integrated MDG rotary drum
dryer, providing a stable and guaranteed
Pressure Dew Point of -40°C/-40°F at almost
zero energy cost. “This dryer uses
the heat of compression to regenerate
the desiccant, avoiding the need for additional
electrical heating, or high purge
air use. Energy savings of up to 20%
over purge type twin tower desiccant
dryers are easily achieved.”
