In recent years Universal
Packaging has introduced a wide
range of pallet containment
and efficiency measurements.
The testing approach started as
“simple pragmatism” according
to Universal Packaging’s technical
consultant, Matt Goddin.
“If we can’t measure it, we won’t
recommend it,” says Goddin
“If we aren’t able to clearly
demonstrate how a set-up can
be improved, then we can’t
realistically offer something new
to clients.”
While common sense may
drive this service ethos it’s the
company’s expertise in packaging
logistics that sets them apart.
Goddin and his team have
travelled extensively to expand
and grow ‘outside the box’
thinking.
Recent visits to the Newton
Research Institute, the largest test
facility of its kind in Asia-Pacific,
put the cutting-edge Nanowrap
through its paces.
Now the New Zealand-owned
packaging company is busy
working with the nation’s
leading companies to share their
knowledge and bring global best
practices for stretch wrapping to
their customers.
“Once we have an effective
measurement of the client’s
specific pallet requirements we
‘gain, sustain, maintain’, a holistic
approach ensuring packaging,
equipment, distribution processes
and human resources are
optimised,” says Goddin.
An innovative film-monitoring
programme is also allowing
businesses to access up-todate
analytics and efficiency
benchmarking on a pallet-bypallet
basis.
“It’s a system we’ve been
developing,” says Universal
technical consultant, Garth Hill.
“Our customers enjoy knowing
wrap is being optimised and
pallets properly protected – and
they’re alerted should key criteria
not be met.”
With big gains from small
changes the success of Universal’s
measures are proving this is far
more than a simple box ticking
(and wrapping) exercise.
NO HALF MEASURES IN
PACKAGING EFFICIENCY
Close enough may be good enough for some. Others will chop
and change according to new or discounted products. However,
many New Zealand distribution centres are now making great
improvements in packaging costs and waste minimisation thanks
to innovative new pallet measurement processes.
Many hands
make light work.
Spinny makes
it even lighter.
Our automated and semi-automated Spinny
range will take the time, cost and stress of manual
wrapping off your hands and a load off your mind.
