GLATT GF MODFLEX BY GLATT
INGENIERTECHNIK
Germany based Glatt Ingenieurtechnik and its Indian subsidiary Glatt India have released cutting-edge
fluidised bed and spouted bed technologies that have been specifically designed to spray-granulate, dry
or encapsulate fluids, and spray-agglomerate and functionalise powders for a broad range of innovative
applications. When it comes to enhancing ingredients and functionalising bulk goods with defined properties,
fluid bed pioneer Glatt is wellknown for its established and state-of-the-art technologies. Glatt GF ModFlex
enables the production of uniformly porous, virtually dust-free, soluble and easily dosed granules. The process
also ensures the homogenous incorporation of ingredients into agglomerates. German sales manager Lutz
Heinzl says the system suits production volumes of 100–3000 kg/h and is able to be used in confined spaces
or rooms with low ceilings. “The predefined modules are pre-installed and pre-assembled to save customers
an enormous amount of time and money. Furthermore, a zone-based operating and room concept based
on specific requirements is included. The continuous operation mode is suitable for the safe manufacture of
high quality ingredients for food, beverage and nutraceutical applications, as well as detergents, surfactants,
agrochemicals, enzymes, fertilisers and numerous other products that dissolve easily, are dust-free and can be
readily dosed or pressed into tablets.” www.glatt.com
AUTOMATED BULK SOLIDS
DRUM DUMPING SYSTEM
A new TIP-TITE Drum Dumping System from Flexicon automatically rolls drums containing bulk
material into position, dumps the material into downstream equipment and rolls empty drums
out of the dumping station, allowing safe, high-capacity transfer from drums of all popular sizes
weighing up to 340kg. Once full drums are rolled onto the dumping station platform, a hydraulic
cylinder raises and seats the drum rim against a discharge hood. A second hydraulic cylinder
then tips the drum to an angle of 45, 60 or 90 degrees with a motion-dampening feature. At full
rotation, the slide gate opens to allow controlled discharge of material into downstream process
equipment. After the empty container is returned to its upright position, the rolling motion is
reversed, and the container is halted in front of a pneumatically-actuated pusher, which transfers
the empty drum to the return conveyor for removal. Meanwhile, another full drum rolls into position
on the dumping platform. Photoelectric sensors located along the powered roller conveyor relay
the position of empty and full drums to the system controller, which actuates the conveyor to
advance full and empty drums upon completion of each dumping cycle. www.flexicon.com.au
VERYX FROM KEY TECHNOLOGIES
Key Technology, a member of the Duravant family of operating companies, introduces
VERYX digital sorters for fresh-cut leafy greens. VERYX is the world’s only belt-fed sorter
that can inspect product entirely in-air with top and bottom sensors in order to detect and
eliminate all foreign material (FM) and product defects. Combining Key’s expertise in sorting
and conveying, VERYX maximises sort accuracy to remove more FM and defects, while
virtually eliminating false rejects, improving food safety and increasing yields simultaneously.
“Leafy greens present a sorting challenge because of the way leaves can overlap or clump
as they are conveyed through the sorter. The fatal flaw of other sorting systems, in addition
to having less effective product handling, is that their top sensors inspect product on
the belt,” advanced inspection systems product manager Marco Azzaretti says. “If FM is
sandwiched between layers of leaves, it’s easily missed because these top sensors won’t
be able to effectively see through the leaves. VERYX achieves true full-surface inspection
of the product stream – no FM can hide from its sensors.” Detecting colour, size, shape
and structural properties of every object, including the presence or absence of chlorophyll,
VERYX removes insects and animal parts, paperboard, wood, rocks, plastics, glass and
more, as well as defects and blemishes including leaf discoloration, tipburn and leaves that
are decayed, wilted or broken.
