coving, drainage, refrigeration,

or piped services – we understand
what materials work best in certain
environments,” says Bevan Hames,
Apollo Projects' national manager of
business development.
“We mainly build greenfield projects,
however many of our clients engage
us to undertake scale extensions or
upgrades to existing environments.
In this regard we understand the
challenges operational plants face
when considering upgrades or
maintenance to their facilities. The cost
of shutting down the plant to carry
out the work can mean hundreds of
thousands of dollars in lost production,
or worse – contamination which could
damage an entire industry.”
A good example is a dairy dryer reclad
for Fonterra. The project brief was
to fully re-clad a 22m high building,
without interrupting operations or
compromising the hygienic integrity of
the cleanroom environment.
“Our innovative approach was to
minimise the manual handling on-site
by constructing an engineered winch,
central lift and a mono-rail system,”
says Hames.
These additions were integral to
the project. The ability to lift out full
sections of 10m panel, and safely
transport each panel around the
building was the key innovation –
which Apollo believes is a first of its
kind anywhere in the world.
“To our knowledge no other milk
processing facility has been re-clad
whilst maintaining 24/7 operations.”
Apollo has now applied this method
to other dairy facility upgrades with
success.
Apollo is also independently ranked
in the top 1% of New Zealand
contractors for health and safety, and
has also been recognised in the Lion
Supplier’s Awards, winning the Lion
‘Integrity Award’.
