Lucy McLeod joined Taupo dairy company Miraka from London
premium fashion label Eskandar over eight years ago.
Since making the move she has instigated significant changes
in the iwi-owned company’s supply chain processes. “There are
actually a lot of similarities between the two industries – it’s all
about shifting things from one place to another as efficiently as
possible,” says Lucy. Packaging waste and road transport have
been a big focus for Lucy, who has increased annual delivery
volume while reducing trucks on the road by almost 50%. Like
Miraka, she makes business decisions for the long-term.
“Reducing road transport and using locally-made packaging that
is recyclable have made big improvements in our environmental
and community impact. It’s about thinking differently and keeping
the bigger picture in mind,” says Lucy.
