After last year’s success, NZMS Scientific is bringing
its food allergen seminar back, this time in Auckland
and Christchurch. The seminar is dedicated to the
New Zealand food and beverage industry, and will
be held on August 8 in Auckland and August 9 in
Christchurch.
Food allergens and cross contamination risks are
more relevant than ever for New Zealand food and
beverage manufacturers. Self-diagnosed food allergy
rates are as high as 38% - greater awareness of food
allergies, intolerances and the ‘healthy lifestyle’ trend,
combined with a prevalence of food allergies in the
industrial world over the past 50 years, are leading to
a rise in the demand for strong allergen management
programmes.

to tap into a rapidly growing market,” NZMS
says. “However, cross-contamination management
and allergen-free labelling regulations can be confusing
and present a real challenge to food companies
manufacturing allergen-free products. Education and
sharing knowledge throughout the food industry is
key to overcoming these challenges.”
The NZMS Scientific food allergen seminar aims to
build confidence and provide guidance to food manufacturers
on producing allergen-free foods. It will
cover a range of food allergen management topics
as well as demonstrations of Romer Labs allergen
testing products.
NZMS Scientific is presenting two international guest
speakers; allergen management, food labelling and
product development expert Georgina Christensen
from Allergen Bureau (Australia/New Zealand); and a
Romer Labs Allergen expert (Singapore). The seminar
will also include a New Zealand food industry perspective
on allergen management experience.
The seminars will be held in Auckland at the Holiday
Inn from 9am to 12 noon on Wednesday, August 8,
2018; and at The Rydges Latimer from 9am to 12
noon on Thursday August 9, 2018 in Christchurch. To
