to limit and avoid contamination.
The air must be filtered, free of
bacteria, particles and pathogens.
Using BRC Global standard filters
must meet ISO16890:2016 and the
hygiene determined by ISO16798.3
In review of the new BRC Global
Food Safety Standard IDA1 class
one is recommended for high
hygiene, this requires three stages

removing particles visible to the

damaging PM1 particulate between
0.3-1.0 micrometers.
“With Fine filtration we need fine
fibers. These fine fibers are delicate
and should they be damaged or
overloaded can enter the air-stream.
BRC GS defines that all filtration
in high hygiene or product contact
areas must comply with food contact
standards."
Total cost of ownership
With the need for fine filters, food
safety tested, microbial inert media
and high hygiene, one could think
the cost to own and run a compliant
facility will rise and could cause
concern.
However, in using the Eurovent and
ISO Energy ratings system it’s noted
that the high-hygiene and compliant
ProSafe range from Camfil all have
Class A or A+ Energy use ratings.
This Energy standard rates the Kw/
hr used to push air through a filter
in combination with the Removal
efficiency and life.
Simply put, a cheap non-compliant
filter with low particle removal
efficiency and no standards testing
will cost more in energy use, shorter
life and increased need to clean
ventilation plant.
A simple rule of energy use is:
This means that Energy use and
CO2 impact is proportional to
average filter pressure loss over time.
Camfil Class A ProSafe filters will
usually have a payback in less than
12 months of use.
