WINE
COOLER
Desperate for that cold glass
of wine after a day spent
sightseeing in Washington?
If you’re staying at the St
Regis Washington DC hotel,
you will be able to benefit
from a revolutionary wine
by-the-glass appliance,
which dispenses a perfectly
preserved and temperaturecontrolled
glass with every
pour. The hotel is the latest
in the US to partner with
Plum, which is also found
in luxury suites at the Four
Seasons, Marriott, SBE
Group, Langham, Hyatt,
Hilton, Waldorf Astoria
and Rosewood hotels.
Plum founder and chief
executive David Koretz
says the appliance is not
just a product – “it’s a
transformative hospitality
experience – and we
continue to revolutionise
the way guests enjoy wine,
one glass at a time.” The
in-room appliance holds
and preserves two bottles,
uses cloud software to
automatically track and
bill guests, and alerts
housekeeping when it is time
to replace an empty bottle.
Plum also enables hoteliers
to recognise and reward
guest loyalty, celebrate a
birthday or anniversary, and
instantly send an amenity
at the touch of a button.
The self-service model
also empowers hoteliers
to unlock new incremental
revenue streams, while at
the same time, reducing
delays and demand on staff.

AUSPACK 2019
PACKAGING, PROCESSING
AND BUSINESS GROWTH
UNDER ONE ROOF
A line-up of more than 25 speakers and panellists will present new data
and ideas through case studies, interactive Q&A sessions, keynote plenary
sessions and 18 breakouts at the AUSPACK Business and Industry
conference in Melbourne next month…and Kiwis are warmly invited.
Across a wide-ranging programme,
the conference will drill down into
two main topic areas…packaging
and processing, and business
growth. Chairman of the Australian
Packaging & Processing Machinery Association
Mark Dingley says the variety of presentations and
speakers will be an excellent way for people to
learn, helped by top quality speakers such as:
Andrew Manly of the Active and Intelligent
Packaging Industry Association, based in Holland;
John Broadbent, a smart factories mentor from
Realise Potential, and Adjunct Professor of
Engineering at UTS, responsible for industry liaison
for smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0;
John Baird of Ultimo Digital Technologies and
chairman of the Cyber Security Advisory Council
of the NSW Department of Finance, Services and
Innovation.
In the packaging and processing stream on day
one, Andrew Manly will give a keynote on ‘Smart
Packaging - How Can Packaging Be Part of The
Sustainability Solution?’. Manly will look at how
new packaging technologies can drive efficiency,
reduce waste and give better control of sales,
marketing and the supply chain. His session will
go deeply into the world of ‘smart packaging’
comparing new technologies and active and
intelligent solutions.
On day two, John Broadbent will give a keynote
on ‘Factory of the Future - It’s Already Here’.
This will demystify the rapidly changing technical
environment of smart factories, Industry 4.0 and
the Industrial Internet of Things or (IIoT). He will
facilitate a panel on ‘4.0 In Practice - Taking the
Next Step’ in the packaging and processing
stream. “This panel discussion and Q&A
opportunity will explain how Industry 4.0 works
in practice and what technologies manufacturers
need, so they can compete in Australia and
internationally,” Dingley says. “There’s some
fantastic empirical evidence around showing
that manufacturers who have headed down the
smart-factory path have seen some large rewards,
including in increased supply chain visibility and
higher customer satisfaction.”
Across in the business growth stream, John Baird
will present a case study on ‘How Blockchain
and IoT Provide Full Traceability of the Supply
Chain’. “John will talk about how Ultimo Digital
Technologies is combining blockchain and
IoT technologies to provide full supply chain
traceability, and he’ll describe how the technology
flows through to the end customer, who then
has the ability to scan products to ensure their
authenticity and, therefore, safety.”
