Chris Chapman knows a good
thing when he sees it and
when it came time to upgrade
and add-on to machinery in
the workshop he only had
one thought – Haas.
The owner of Chapman Manufacturing in
Christchurch told NZ Engineering News that
the decision to add a Haas ST-25Y lathe and
bar feeder (full Y axis turn/mill ST-25Y) to the
company’s Haas VF-2 machining centre -
installed in June 2016 – was an easy one.
“In 2016 we’d moved away from a previous
supplier,” says Chris, the attraction of Haas’
quality, after sales service and function were
strong mitigating factors.
“The VF-2 has performed exceptionally, so the
lathe and bar feeder wasn’t a hard one to make.”
Chris says you get what you pay for, and the
outlay for Haas machinery, he believes, has
taken his engineering workshop to greater
heights with the ability to produce faster, more
accurately and with a higher level of finish.
“But it’s not just the machinery side of things,”
Chris explains, “the after sale service side of
things is exceptional. Having a Haas service
agent in Christchurch makes a massive
difference.” Chris says it’s that peace of mind
that if something does go wrong or we need
advice or instruction then a quick phone call
provides the solution.
“It’s a relationship, really,” adds Chris.
Karl Medley, Haas’ national account manager,
says he is thrilled that Haas has provided the
engineering firm with the equipment to improve
the operation.
“It was clear that poor service was the major
factor they needed to resolve, if ever a machine
issue did occur, to maintain their productivity. It
was our pleasure to welcome them to the Haas
family with their first Haas, a VF-2 machining
centre, and all that it means – performance,
service and support,” says Karl.
“Dealing with Chris and his guys at Chapman
Manufacturing is always a pleasure. In
2016, when we were discussing Chapman
Manufacturing’s needs for a new machining
centre it was a new relationship between the
two parties – it’s one that has flourished quickly.
“Our development and training to provide a
South Island Haas certified technician, further
strengthens the position that is service and
support – that’s Haas Machine Tools.”
Chris agrees with Karl. Things are on the move.
“We are at the forefront of the engineering
industry, supporting leading brands within New
Zealand with our products,” explains Chris
– the new Haas machinery contributing in a
large part to that.
He says that the extensive range of
machinery provides the opportunity to
manufacture or fabricate a multitude
of products for its clients, across various
industries including dairy, food processing
and much more.
“We can manufacture and fabricate parts
from the very small to large. Our services
include design and build, repairs and
maintenance on plant and equipment, CNC
machining, and welding to name a few,”
says Chris.
The newly installed ST-25Y Series turning
centre has been designed to provide even
more performance, features, and value
than ever before.
“We’ve re-engineered everything –
from the ground up – to create a more
rigid machine, with superior cutting
performance, and a host of productivityenhancing
options,” says Haas. The
benefits, according to Chapman
Manufacturing, are now being passed on
to its customers. Word is getting about fast
– things are being done right in the deep
south.
