Eaton brings first lithium-ion UPS to NZ
Power management company Eaton has launched its 5P lithium
ion rackmount uninterruptible power system (UPS), the
first of its kind in Australia and New Zealand. Designed for
distributed IT and edge computing environments, the UPS
offers increased network security, extended battery life and
remote management capabilities.
Building on the success of the Eaton 5P UPS launched in
2013, the upgraded lithium-ion version provides enhanced
performance compared to lead-acid batteries, with extended
service life and less need for frequent battery replacement.
The 5P is compatible with Eaton’s recently launched Gigabit
Network Card, which complies with UL 2900-2-2 standard for
cybersecurity. As the first in the industry to comply with the
UL 2900-2-2 cybersecurity standard, Eaton’s optional Gigabit
Network Card provides remote monitoring and protects
against cyber threats.
One of the early adopters of the 5P rackmount lithium-ion
UPS was Vino Rodrigues, technology facilities manager at
Sydney Airport.
“With millions of busy passengers travelling through Sydney
Airport every year, it is essential that we invest in the latest
UPS technology to ensure IT equipment is backed up with
reliable power to maximise uptime and ensure business continuity.
“The extended battery design life coupled with remote management
capabilities will easily support our distributed edge
IT assets for 7-10 years, which is 2 to 3 times longer life than
a lead-acid battery. This will reduce our overall operating
costs, while making our IT systems more resilient and secure
through the Eaton UL certified network card.”
John Atherton, general manager power quality at Eaton A/NZ
says as more companies invest in edge and distributed infrastructure,
Eaton is continually investing in new technologies,
such as lithium-ion, to help deliver enhanced security and reliability.
“Eaton is proud to launch our first lithium-ion UPS in A/NZ,
which represents a significant step forward in UPS technology.
“The 5P rackmount lithium-ion UPS coupled with our worldfirst
UL certified Gigabit Network Card, gives IT and data centre
professionals the reliable back-up power solution they’ve
come to trust while increasing security and enhancing business
continuity.”
Additional features of Eaton’s 5P lithium-ion UPS include:
• A user-friendly, lightweight design with 20 percent less
weight than a comparable lead-acid UPS.
• Can be paired with Eaton Intelligent Power Manager (IPM)
software
• Versatile mounting options allowing for simple deployment.
• Less rack space, compact 1U and slimline wallmount for a
reduced footprint.
• Five-year standard warranty on the UPS and batteries.
Moving towards more electrification
The BusinessNZ Energy Council
(BEC) has welcomed the Government’s
response to the Interim Climate
Change Committee’s report on
accelerated electrification.
BEC chair David Caygill says the Interim
Committee has worked transparently
and signalled clearly its progress
with key stakeholders, and the
energy sector would want the soonto
be-established climate change
commission to continue this.
"We welcome the Government’s
statement that it will be pragmatic
about achieving the aspirational goal
of 100% renewable electricity in an
average rainfall year.
"The ICCC confirmed that chasing
the last few percent of renewables
would be expensive for consumers
and that it would be more efficient
to reduce energy sector emissions
rather than electricity sector emissions.
"Ongoing changes in energy markets
suggest we should be cautious
in making policy. The future energy
supply chain will be more interconnected
than it is today, changing
the incentives for consumption and
CablePrice
signs distributor
agreement with
MB Crusher
In an agreement signed at this
year’s Bauma International
trade show in Germany, Italian
based company MB Crusher
appointed CablePrice (NZ) Ltd as
its exclusive distributor for New
Zealand and Pacific Islands.
“We see this as a natural
extension to the high-quality
range of equipment that we
have been known for delivering
to our customers for over 65
years. We’re excited to be moving
forward with MB Crusher as this
will give our customers local
access and aftersales support to
additional international product
lines,” says CablePrice general
manager, special products, Jason
Cann.
MB Crusher is recognised
worldwide as an industry leader
in developing and creating construction
equipment mounted
products for the crushing,
demolition and recycling
industries. Their attachments can
be applied directly on equipment
such as excavators, loaders, skid
loaders and backhoe loaders.
“We are excited about this
agreement with MB Crusher’s.
They have a great reputation and
produce an excellent range of
machine mounted crushers and
screeners that will complement
our existing line-up of Montabert
attachments and McCloskey
crushers,” says Jason.
CablePrice have added a range
of the MB products to their
line-up such as Crusher Buckets,
Screening Buckets and Shaft
Screeners. The products have
many areas of applications says
Jason “from building demolitions
in general, to the processing of
excavation materials from the
construction sector to road
works, from quarries to mines,
from environmental reclamation
to applications on rocky soil”.
