Northern Forklifts have new stock that
includes Lithium-ion battery-powered
pallet trucks and four-wheel counterbalance
forklifts which offer considerable
advantages for many.
NFL managing director Dexter Hyland says Hangcha
is once again demonstrating that it is a market leader
in improving technology. “Hangcha is determined to
cement its place in the top ranks of forklift truck manufacturers,
and its research and product development
facilities and resources are second to none.”
The new lithium-powered pallet trucks (pictured)
have a 1.2 tonne load capacity and a battery life of
1200 charge cycles, which is way beyond the life
expectancy of lead-acid batteries in a similar sized
unit. The lithium battery in the CBD12 pallet truck has
a 3.5 hour continuous work life per charge and can
also be charged at any time for short periods such as
lunch breaks to effectively extend the operating time
between complete charge cycles without harming
the overall battery life.
“This is a big step forward for users who would
prefer a light manoeuvrable pallet truck but have previously
been restricted to larger heavier units with full
lead-acid traction batteries in order to get a full shift
per charge,” Hyland says.
Close behind the pallet trucks, NFL is expecting its
first counterbalance lithium unit. This is a Hangcha
CPD18-AC4 Premium1.8 tonne capacity four-wheel
forklift with container mast and sideshift, lithium
battery and matched charger. The battery is rated for
3500 charge cycles - more than twice the life of a
conventional battery - and can be fully charged from
flat in two hours. And, like the pallet trucks, it can be
‘opportunity’ charged to further extend an operating
shift. The CPD18-AC4 premium also features an
automatic electric park brake, stability control and full
real-time battery management systems as well as
the standard CPD18-AC4’s all-AC systems and other
driver-friendly features that have made it a popular
operator choice.
The advanced Lithium battery technology does come
at a cost. Both the CBD12 pallet trucks and the
CPD18 come into the market at a higher price point
than their lead-acid powered equivalents. In the case
of the CBD12 pallet truck, the price premium will be
relatively small, and NFL believes that they will be a
very affordable option for anyone who works their
machine hard over extended periods, while the conventional
battery model will suit a low utilisation site.
“The CPD18 with lithium is definitely aimed at the user
who wants maximum performance and can justify the
higher upfront cost through productivity,” Hyland says.
“I believe that the price premium will not be excessive
and the CPD18 will be seen as a very cost-effective
purchase.”
Hangcha is working to extend lithium throughout its product
range, and NFL will be introducing more models to the
New Zealand market as they come on stream.
The well-known and comprehensive
Hangcha forklift range is about to
grow even larger, with new models
taking a decisive step into the future
of electric forklift technology.
