Corrections Facility have taken part in
the Tokomairiro A&P Show after their
instructor secretly entered them into
the cooking competition. Sally Scott
called the entrants Guns N Roses after
her favourite band, and her students
won first and second places in the
fruit muffin category and third in the
gingernut biscuit discipline. Judges
did not know where the entries they
were sampling came from. Students in
Scott’s 16-week baking course, focus
on biscuits, cakes and slices but only
five prisoners can take part at a time.
“They were just blown away…the
sense of pride came over their faces,”
she says. Scott says prisoners can
change dramatically on the course.

UNITED STATES: News that PepsiCo is developing a line
of Doritos for women that don’t crunch audibly has been
shut down by the company, which says there are already
Doritos for ladies…they’re called Doritos. The company behind
the cheesy chips has debunked the rumour spawned
after chief executive Indra Nooyi announced the company
was getting ready to launch snacks designed and packaged
differently for women. PepsiCo says the comments have
been misinterpreted, despite Nooyi saying women don’t like
to lick their fingers after eating a bag of Doritos like men do.
“Women would love to do the same, but they don’t,” Nooyi
said in an interview on the Freakonomics podcast. “They
don’t like to crunch too loudly in public. And they don’t lick
their fingers generously and they don’t like to pour the little
broken pieces and the flavor into their mouth.” Nooyi, who
has run the company for more than a decade, also says
women love to carry a snack in their purse.
