With a third of the
population actively
reducing their meat
consumption, the
demand for plant-based products is
rapidly growing in 2019.
Counteracting the meat and dairy
industries commodity boards,
non-profit organisations are
emerging to support plant-based
choices: internationally, Plant Based
Foods Association and Good
Food Institute are both promoting
education, research, and
entrepreneurship in the plan-based
field.
The advances in research and
technology has made it possible
for plant-based alternatives,
like soy, peas, and nuts, to taste like
dairy milk or cheese, or even like
meat. Plant-based burgers available
on the market today are on par with
meat-based burgers in terms of
flavour, satiability, and texture, while
being more sustainable and ethical.
More and more restaurants are
expanding and improving their
plant-based range to satisfy vegans
and the vegan-curious, while leading
brands and supermarkets plantbased
offerings are proliferating at
exponential rate; it’s clear that the
plant-based market is blooming.
