GLOBAL STAINLESS:
WHOLE NEW SPHERE OF THINGS
Stainless steel fabricator Global
Stainless Limited, best known
for its perfectly shaped mirror
polished spheres for famous British
artist Anish Kapoor’s international
sculptures, also fabricate high
quality spheres and hemispheres for
many industrial uses.
“The potential applications that our
high-quality hemispheres have in the
construction of cooking and mixing
vessels both nationally and around
the world is vast,” says managing
director of the Hawera family
business, Lincoln Raikes.
“We can make a sphere or
hemisphere (half ball) to any
diameter and up to 12mm thick
with pressure vessel certification
and with weld seams 100%
radiographed which means they
are so versatile for use in steam
sterilized pharmaceutical and
cosmetic manufacturing vessels.”
The unique smoothness and even
contour also makes Global Stainless
hemispheres very attractive when
a scrapper agitator is used in a
cooking vessel as there is no burn
on of product that is known to
happen if a hemisphere with an
uneven surface were used.
The company also offers a polishing
service to all levels of food and
aseptic grades.
“Our experience in polishing for
the art world which is extremely
demanding in achieving an ultrahigh
mirror polish has enabled us
to provide a superior polishing
ability for use in the most critical
pharmaceutical polish finish
requirements,” Mr Raikes says
A sphere is the perfect shape to
withstand pressure and vacuum and
the company also produces high
strength low weight spheres for
other fabricators.
Global Stainless also manufactures
dome heads for vessels and long
radius stainless steel bends.
The latest member of the Freddy
family, the Micro Plus, is lighter, more
mobile, and more cost-effective
offering greater versatility than any
other system on the market.
The Micro Plus continues on from
the very successful Micro which was
launched in early 2017. Designed
and manufactured in the UK, it is
made to the same high standards
and specifications that has made
the Freddy range a trusted and
respected name in coolant recycling.
Unlike many alternate systems, the
Micro Plus doesn’t use fragile and
often unreliable submersible pumps
that take up valuable tank capacity
and make it incredibly difficult to
thoroughly clean. This gives the
new machine the ability to take on
heavily contaminated liquids without
damaging parts or machinery that it
comes into contact with.
With the ability to pump out rather
than have the gravity drain of the
Micro, it is now possible to recycle
50 litres of coolant through the
machine and back into the sump in
just 60 seconds.
Available with a 2kW motor, and
either a 240v or 110v power source,
the motor can generate an airflow
rate of 3000m3/hr with a water
in-flow rate of 238 litres per minute
and an outflow rate of 100 litres
per minute. The airflow is switched
from vacuum to pressurise in order
to force filtered liquids out of the
holding tank. It is so powerful the
2kW unit can easily pump out into
barrels, IBC’s, or overhead storage
tanks.
