SHINE ON YOU CRAZY
‘ENGINEERING’ DIAMONDS
It’s getting to my favourite time of
the year where all that glitters is
actually gold – in the engineering
magazine world, at least.
Next month we bring you the
annual ‘Profiles of Success’
segment, which highlights great
suppliers to our wonderful
engineering and manufacturing
industries. These are suppliers who
know the critical difference they can
play in making your business more
efficient, productive, safe and/or
profitable.
And among the gold will be, hidden
gems. Unearthing these stories to
reveal wonderful success yarns
are what scribes such as myself
yearn to write about. We, as trade
media, aren’t about earth-shattering
headlines that shock the world. We
focus more on the good, and the
positive business practices that are
in place by others that you too, as
a business owner or manager, can
incorporate into your day-to-day
operations.
Last year Redwoods Engineering
with Haas, as well as Gloster
Engineering with Total CNC
displayed some wonderful column
inches that shone the spotlight on
companies that are collaborating for
the greater good of all. None shied
away from the light, realising the
potential exposure and subsequent
further reach out to similar,
like-minded companies. They
embraced it and have benefitted
from it.
Collaboration surpassed partnerships
some time ago in
the business world. Today, it’s
openness in communication and
objectives - and pairing with those
that are willing to embrace a
new business world - that
are producing positive
outcomes.
As a reader of NZ
Engineering News,
what I hope you get
out of the magazine
highlighting real-world
partnerships in the manufacturing
chain – whether through
product supply or services, or other
– is that your business is not an
island. You rely on others as well

they on you. So, choosing the right
people to deal and do business
with is critical to your success.
The Profiles of Success section give
you a leg up in partner selection.
These are companies that work
with you more often than not in very
unique ways. In a world in which
information is key, it’s invaluable.
They aren’t internet yarns where
someone is writing hundreds of
different – often falsified -recommendations
or positive reinforcements
about companies to trick you
into buying. No, no… that online
world can keep that lot, thank you
very much. These are real stories.
Written by journalists. And with real
world occurrences.
To me, that’s the industry shining
brightly.
