MOTORSPORT ENGINEERING
The Briggs brothers used their
consultancy experience as a platform
to design and build their own car,
taking ques from both niche projects
and mass-production items to find
the perfect formula. In 2011 they
launched the world’s only single-seat
road legal supercar – the BAC
Mono.
The objective was to create a very
specialised vehicle that essentially
has no competition and instead puts
the focus back on driving - Mono
is essentially a road-legal race car.
There is currently no competitive
category that it fits into, so it is
essentially a ‘track day’ car that you
can actually drive to the circuit and
hopefully back again.
The Mono also provides a vehicle
for the transfer of technology that
first appeared in Formula One and

A RACECAR FOR THE ROAD
- By NZEN's motorsport engineering expert, Dr Charles Clarke
Let’s be honest – from time to time even the busiest technical petrolhead
dreams of building his or her own car, some even opt to start from scratch.
That’s what happened with the Briggs brothers, Neill and Ian, when they
founded Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) in 2009. They had the advantage
of a background in an automotive design consultancy having worked for
several automotive A-listers for over a decade, notably major OEMs such
as Porsche, Mercedes, Smart, AMG, Maybach, Ford, Bentley, and well as
non-automotive clients such as Lufthansa and several hotel chains.
