HIGH GRADE
METALS: NAME
CHANGE, NEW
MACHINE,
SAME SERVICE
CNC Direct has changed its flagship name to High Grade Metals and
a new Techni waterjet cutter signals greater cutter capacities and
even greater versatility for its customers
David Thumath has been in the engineering
business for some time, heading the business of
CNC Direct at his Onehunga facilities in Auckland.
In that time he has seen many things change, but
has focussed on improving the company’s offering
to what he describes as a vibrant engineering and
manufacturing industry. The last couple of years
has seen expansion, greater range and increased
versatility
Now, he says, it’s time for his own company to
change to “better reflect” where the business is
heading.
“We’ll still be supplying the great range of
machines we have offered for a number of years
to the New Zealand market, under the CNC Direct
brand, but now trading as High Grade Metals
(HGM) with CNC Direct being a subsidiary.
“We’ve really grown over the last few years and
in that time have delved into different areas of the
engineering market. The name change reflects the
future company direction,” he says.
This engineering tools and material supplier has
grown on the back of quality products and being
made of the ‘right stuff’. But David is also well
aware that it’s vital to continue to increase the
services the company offers.
Enter massive investment.
“We’ve really wanted to focus on not only the
supply of top quality metal materials but also
provide extended versatility for an ever-growing
client base that demands greater versatility. The
purchase of an Intec water jet cutting machine fills
that void and more,” says Dave.
In the world of profile abrasive waterjet cutting
bigger is better: HGM’s new Techni Intec713
with Quantum Gen4 and PAC60 means that the
company now has a cutting capacity of 4 x 2
metres.
Intec-G2 can cut almost any material to 8-inch
thick at maximum cutting speeds with minimum
capital outlay. It is based on the same design
platform as the Techjet-X3. It is known for its
precision accuracy.
With PAC60 60 degree bevel cutting, HGM is
capable of producing parts with a true angle
up to ± 60 deg with continuous rotation. That
means regardless of the geometry of the part to
be cut, the PAC 60 will produce it without having
to reposition the cutting head, saving time and
producing higher quality parts. It is capable of
producing parts to tolerances of ±0.1 degrees.
The unit complements the business and the heavy
investment will mean that HGM’s customer
base simply has more options, greater
flexibility and improved service with delivery
– meeting every need you’d ever want.
The company has gone through a
sustained period of growth for both arms
of its business – CNC Direct supplying
trusted brands within CNC machining, saw
cutting and accessories (Quaser, Chevalier,
FAT-Haco, Takisawa, CHMER EDM, JIH-I
and Waytrain) while High Grade Metals
has all the materials required for precision
engineering including indent metals
(aluminium, steel, copper, beryllium copper,
titanium), steel (A2,2767, H13, P2, P20) and
aluminium (6082, 7075, Formodal 23 and
Formodal 30).
If you want competitive quotes for tooling,
toolsteel or other specialist metals then
you need not go any further – CNC Direct
is where the engineering industry stops to
shop.
Today, a decade on since Mr Thumath
established the business, HGM/CNC
Direct has a massive warehouse/workshop
footprint at new premises in Onehunga,
