Native ingredients from Australia will
be included in biscuits offered as an inflight
snack on Qantas Airways, including
finger lime and Davidson plums.
Bushfood specialist The Australian
Superfood Co has collaborated with
two Australian biscuit manufacturers
to provide Qantas with a specially curated
range of shortbread artisan bites
featuring unique tastes of Australia.
TASC founder and managing director
Hayley Blieden says the collaboration
is exciting, as it not only gives international
tourists a taste of Australia but
also shows locals the amazing flavours
available in their own backyard. “Now,
more than ever, our local growers need
to reach a larger, captive audience,
and this has given them the opportunity
to do so.” The partnership with
Charlie’s Cookies and Lukken & May is
a significant stepping stone for TASC,
re-reinforcing the company’s vision to
raise awareness and recognition of the
ingredients themselves. The airline’s
decision to embrace native Australian
ingredients is a fundamental part of its
role to showcase some of the country’s
best local producers, and having
these ingredients onboard flights offers
a platform for flavours that would
otherwise be quite unfamiliar to the
average consumer, Blieden says. “It
is an effective way to connect native
Australian ingredients with people
who can learn about their gourmet and
nutritional value, as well as the cultural
knowledge behind them.” The biscuits
will be available on Qantas domestic
flights until September. https://austsuperfoods.

A new organisation – the New Zealand
Alcohol Beverages Council – has been
created to inform discussions around
the role of beer, wine and spirits in
New Zealand, and ensure responsible
Kiwi drinkers aren’t forgotten in the
formulation of policy around alcohol.
Pernod Ricard New Zealand managing
director Kevin Mapson is the inaugural
chair of the pan-industry body,
which he says will also promote the
econom-ic and social value of the
alcohol indus-try to New Zealand.
Former Porirua mayor Nick Leggett
has been appoint-ed as the NZABC’s
executive director, and will speak not
only on behalf of the industry but also
for the more than two million Kiwis
who regularly and responsibly enjoy
alcohol, Mapson says. “NZABC has
been formed to speak for the industry
and to promote its constructive work
with government to address the problems
associated with excessive and
underage drink-ing,” he says. “More
and more of us are choosing to drink
moderately and responsibly, particularly
younger drinkers, who have a more
mature attitude to drinking than past
genera-tions.” The organisation will
also focus on promoting the enormous
economic contribution of the alcohol,
retail and hospitality industry to New
Zealand and its role in contributing to
employment, revenue, national and
regional tourism, hospitality, major
events and NZ Inc. Inaugural members
include Pernod Ricard NZ, DB Breweries,
Lion, Inde-pendent Liquor, Foodstuffs
(NZ) Ltd, Brewers Association of
NZ, NZ Food & Grocery Council, Spirits
New Zealand and Brown-Forman NZ.
