year’s event.
And on the subject of winners,
the Safety Wingman Team at
the Wellington International
Airport has taken out the Site
Safe Safety Award at this
year's New Zealand Institute of
Building Awards.
The current Rydges Hotel
project at the airport
represents version three of
the safety programme, and
was developed with main
contractor, Arrow.
The programme aims to
promote positive worker
engagement through all
levels of site activities and
includes ongoing regular
events, celebrations, awards,
'rate a mate', incentives for
near-miss observations and
learning opportunities, positive
reinforcement, collateral/
posters, and a unique site
induction video. The team
says that what was "originally
a safety campaign, has
effectively become a site
culture campaign".
The judges said that the project
team from Arrow had accepted
the challenge set by the airport
and had created "an inspiring
and effective health and safety
environment on site".
