TEMPERATURE CALIBRATION IN MINUTES
He commented quietly
that they could save
thousands of man hours
every year, if they had
temperature sensors that were selfmonitoring.
Enter ifm’s revolutionary TAD
technology.
The staff member for ifm explained
how this unique range of
temperature sensors was designed
exactly for this reason. The sensor
has an internal “drift alarm”
monitoring function. Meaning, plant
operators find out the moment
pre-set calibration drift limits are
exceeded, and hence product is
being made outside specification.
All F&B plants by regulation
routinely check the calibration of
temperature sensors in critical
applications. Along with many
other locations - just to be sure
product is being made at the
correct temperature. Instrument
technicians routinely test every
instrument is performing correctly,
and the 4…20mA loop is reading
within agreed limits. When a sensor
is found to have drifted, calibration
adjustments are made. This takes
time - say an hour per sensor – plus
plant disruption and down time.
These are unavoidable facts of life
in traditional plants.
Today, modern plants have the
option of installing TAD IO-Link
sensors. These offer highly
accurate temperature measurement
(+/_ 0.2%) with a 4..20mA output.
Plus a second output to alarm
in the case of unacceptable
calibration drift.
Normally, calibration drift is only
discovered when the calibration
