Reactive maintenance sucks away profits, creates exposure to safety incidences, and basically
demoralizes everyone in maintenance and operations. There is a path out of this resource
consuming cycle, but it takes some forethought and prioritization. The same can be said for all
condition monitoring and reliability improvement initiatives.
Help is not far away.
Attend the “Management Day” at the VANZ conference in Rotorua on May 29th and you will hear
a focused workshop that will guide you through these issues. Topics include:

asset management plans.
Another new innitiative, students, apprentices
and trainees can attend the practical ‘Hands
on Awareness Day’ at no cost. The format for
this year will be formal presentations on each

CONFERENCE WORKSHOP:
Breaking out of the reactive maintenance
cycle of doom
• A very brief overview of the benefits of
reliability and CM
• How do CM and reliability help an
organization achieve its goals
o Why does the organization exist
o What are the constraints
o What are the risks
o What are the opportunities
• How we can perform criticality analysis,
opportunity analysis, and pareto analysis to
rank the equipment and thus prioritize all
further activities
• How that information can be greatly
enhanced with accurate equipment health
information
• How do we use that information to break out
of the “reactive maintenance cycle of doom”?
• Examples will be provided from the power
and dairy industries, but it will be relevant
to all service organizations and continuous/
discrete manufacturing
The day will begin with an overview of
condition monitoring technologies, and will
end with a round-table discussion.
