Stantec Signs
Letter of Intent to
Acquire Wellington
Based TDG
Global design firm Stantec is
strengthening its New Zealand
and Australia-based capabilities
with the planned acquisition
of Wellington -based consulting
transportation engineering firm,
Traffic Design Group (TDG). With
more than 80 team members,
TDG has offices located in markets
throughout New Zealand,
including Auckland, Tauranga,
Hamilton, Napier, Wellington,
Nelson, and Christchurch. The
firm also has an office in Sydney,
Australia. The transaction
is expected to close April 1.
“The addition of TDG creates
one of the largest transportation
practices available to locally
support communities in New
Zealand and Australia,” says
Mark Bruzzone, Stantec Australia/
New Zealand managing
director. “TDG and its talented
team members have a deeply
respected local legacy and
serve as a great complement to
our existing teams.”

New generation of photoelectronic sensors makes industry smarter
Wenglor Sensoricm, distributed here by
Treotham New Zealand, has introduced
a new generation of photoelectronic
sensors.
Equipped with IO-Link 1.1, they stand
for thinking, networked, learning sensors
for the future of Industry 4.0. The
1K miniature design was presented as
the first representative of the product
range.
All of the sensors included in this product
range boast a unique combination
of outstanding communication capabilities
and photoelectronic performance
values. For example, sensor settings
can be easily saved and duplicated for
other applications thanks to the IO-Link
interface. This simplifies initial start-up
and saves time. Condition monitoring
permits predictive maintenance. Should
replacement become necessary, the
sensor’s configuration is automatically
transferred to the new device by means
of the data storage function. Beyond
this, clear-cut visualisation provided by
standard wTeach2 software makes it
possible to match the sensors precisely
to complex applications. Switching
thresholds and functional reserve are
rendered visible, thus permitting a qualitative
assessment.
The sensors work with laser, red or blue
light, and offer outstanding optical characteristics
as well. They’re adjusted at
the factory such that each sensor has
the same switching distance when the
settings are identical (potentiometer/
IO-Link). Thanks to the balanced spot
with aligned optical axis, no subsequent
realignment of the spot is required. This
simplifies initial start-up as well as replacement.
And the sensors don’t influence
each other when they’re mounted
directly next to or opposite each other.
Furthermore, they’re insensitive to interfering
light and are consistently available
in laser class 1.
The first group of the new product
range is based on the 1K miniature design.
All five functional principles (reflex
sensor with or without background
suppression, retro-reflex sensor with
or without clear glass recognition and
through-beam sensor) are available in
one of the world’s smallest housing
formats, 32 x 16 x 12mm. Sensors with
1K housing can be connected either via
plug connector, pigtail or cable, and can
be configured by means of potentiometer,
or via teach-in with the high-end
variant. Thanks to a minimal weight of
just 4 grams, they’re also well suited for
applications on robot arms. IP67/IP68
protection, LEDs which are visible all
the way around and an extended temperature
range of -40 to +60° C round
out the portfolio.
