MARMALADA (MASTERTON) Fresh from the Langdale Homestead in Whareama, Marmalada is putting a twist on the humble marmalade. Using an open-pan method of preserving freshly picked and hand-cut fruit chips, the spiced marmalades are made to be enjoyed with complementary food matches such as sausages, small goods, cheese, desserts and toast. The company has won numerous awards, such as a fold and silver award at the esteemed Dalemain Marmalade awards in the UK. www.marmalada.co.nz It’s been a big 12 months for fourth-generation family chocolate business Whittaker’s, which has launched new flavours, is expanding its north Wellington factory and has signed up some British acting legends to promote its products here and overseas. Marketing manager Holly Whittaker says the company – which employs 160 staff and exports a quarter of its production overseas to Australia, Southeast Asia, China and North America – is buzzing over its new Destinations Collection, which brings ingredients from India, Canada, Italy and Nicaragua together as hero ingredients. Cocoa beans are sourced from some of the oldest heirloom cocoa plantations in the world, the cardamom is sourced from the foothills of the Western Ghats in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in India, and apricots are handpicked from two valleys in Northern Italy. "It’s fantastic to be working with suppliers of world-class ingredients in other countries that share our philosophy around quality and respect for tradition.” www.whittakers.co.nz www.foodtechnology.co.nz 77 WHITTAKERS (PORIRUA) T&G (AUCKLAND) An extended five-year sponsorship agreement with the Royal NZ Institute of Horticulture Education Trust means the Young Horticulturalist of the Year competition will continue to develop and recognise the next generation’s skills and knowledge. T&G says. The company, which last year celebrated 125 years of age, has always supported the annual contest, but the growing need for more talent in the industry has led to it doubling its financial support through to 2022. Competitions like this are incredibly important, executive general manager Andrew Keaney says, as it supports the growing horticulture industry which is now worth $8 billion. “As an advocate for over 1500 growers and 120 years’ growing experience, T&G understands the challenges our industry faces from adverse weather to finding talent. The Young Horticulturalist competition helps address the latter by supporting emerging talent across the spectrum of growing from wine to flowers and fresh food.” www.tandg.global NZMS SCIENTIFIC (NEW ZEALAND) Rapid testing products for food and beverage safety, hygiene monitoring and product quality are what NZMS Scientific offers to the market.
