www.foodtechnology.co.nz 53 DR ALISON HODGKINSON (AgResearch) Hodgkinson is senior scientist with the dairy foods team at Ruakura, and concentrates on the health and nutritional benefits of milk. She obtained her PhD in biological sciences from the University of Waikato. DR GALE BRIGHTWELL (AgResearch) Brightwell is science team leader for food assurance and meat quality, with research interests overseeing many aspects of food assurance and molecular microbiology such as zoonotic organisms, microbial ecology and bacterial population dynamics. She has a PhD in molecular microbiology from the University of East Anglia. BOYD SWINBURN (University of Auckland) Boyd Swinburn is the Professor of Population Nutrition and Global Health, and Alfred Deakin Professor and Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention at Deakin University in Melbourne. A specialist endocrinologist, his major research interests are centred on community and policy actions to prevent childhood and adolescent obesity. Swinburn is co-chair of the World Obesity/ Policy & Prevention and has also contributed to more than 30 WHO consultations and reports on obesity. LAURENCE MELTON (University of Auckland) Melton has done research on food in six countries, resulting in 300 publications. He is currently Professor of Food Chemistry, Fellow of the Riddet Centre, editor of Food Chemistry and recently appointed as Editor-in-Chief of a five-volume encyclopedia of Food Chemistry. Melton initiated the food science and wine science degrees and diploma courses at the University of Auckland. MARTYN DUNNE (Ministry for Primary Industries) Director-general of MPI since 2013 after finishing as High Commissioner to Australia, Dunne also led the Customs Service for seven years. He was elected chair of the World Customs Organisation, served as an officer in the NZ Army (including the SAS), and commanded the deployment of troops in East Timor. WHO’S WHO
