54 ANNUAL DIRECTORY 2017 JULIAN RAINE (Horticulture New Zealand) Raine has been a pipfruit and berryfruit grower in the Nelson area for more than 30 years. He also has interests in dairy farming and growing hops. He is director of the New Zealand Boysenberry Council, the NZ Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust, the Cawthron Institute and several horticulture companies. Raine who is president of Hort NZ, is trustee of the Massey Lincoln Agricultural Industry Trust. DR NICOLE ROY (AgResearch) Science team leader - food nutrition and health at Grasslands in Palmerston North, Roy leads a team of 20 science staff and 20 PhD students. Her experience includes large New Zealand research collaborations, including the leadership of Ministry of Science and Innovation-funded studies. Roy is also involved with the Riddet Institute. TODD MCCLAY (Minister of Trade) The Member of Parliament for Rotorua, McClay was first elected to government in 2008 and promoted to Minister of Trade in 2015. He is a member of both the Cabinet Economic Growth & Infrastructure Committee and the Cabinet Committee on External Relations and Defence. Prior to entering Parliament, McClay owned an international communications and lobbying company in Europe, and has worked in political capacity internationally in the European Parliament as the Chief of Staff to the Leader of the British Conservative Party and for the Irish Fianna Fail Party. In 2000, he was appointed the Cook Islands and Niue Ambassador to the European Union, serving these Governments in Brussels. In recognition of his work for the people of the Cook Islands, McClay was made an Honorary Cook Islands national in 2005. DR MIKE TROUGHT (Plant & Food Research) Trought was made a fellow of New Zealand Winegrowers in 2015 for his contributions to the wine industry. He is the Principal Scientist with the Marlborough Wine Research Centre, is a past president of the New Zealand Society of Plant Physiology, and Adjunct Associate Professor at Lincoln University. ALLAN SCOTT (Scott Family Wines) Attributed as the wine industry trailblazer who helped to create Marlborough’s wine industry and nurture it as the epicentre of New Zealand’s billion-dollar Sauvignon Blanc success, Scott helped to establish Corbans before founding his own highly successful family winery. He was instrumental in developing Montana’s Brancott vineyard in the 1960s. WHO’S WHO
