LOADS OF EXTRA MULTIMEDIA CONTENT FREE www.engineeringnews.co.nz 49 One of Australia’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of gears, motors and drives, Bonfiglioli Australia, is cementing its commitment to quality and efficiency by undergoing recertification to the latest quality standard, ISO9001: 2015. Bonfiglioli Australia is one of over 10 Bonfiglioli plants and branches globally to undergo the recertification audit. Each country must pass in order for Bonfiglioli to be awarded a global certification, EN225 in addition to each country’s one. “The commitment to upgrade ISO certification to the 2015 edition demonstrates to our customers that Bonfiglioli is committed to continual improvement of our QMS to ensure the quality of our product and service exceeds our customers’ expectations,” says Bonfiglioli quality assurance co-ordinator, Paul Johnson. “ISO 9001 certification brings many benefits to customers, including having their needs consistently met, lower defect rates, on-time deliveries and positive staff attitudes,” he says. Customers are assured that the product is produced by highly competent employees with all the necessary skills and training. ISO 9001 is an international Standard and is the best known and most widely used model of a quality management system. The Standard focuses on customer satisfaction, consistently filling requirements and continual improvement. “ISO9001 is such an important standard that it is often considered as a ‘minimum requirement’ for suppliers in industries like mining, minerals processing, bulk handling, manufacturing and materials handling,” says Mr Johnson. “Bonfiglioli supplies a huge range of gears, motors and drives to power machinery and plant in these industries, so this enhanced commitment to quality gives customers confidence that our products are of the highest quality and backed by service nation-wide.” ISO9001 update “The key differences between the old ISO9001: 2008 certification and this new one include a stronger emphasis on context analysis, increased top level management commitment to the Quality Management System and an increased focus on risk based approach,” explains Mr Johnson. The stronger emphasis on context analysis, both internal and external, includes the analysis of trends such as market trends, technological advances and legislative requirements. Bonfiglioli has implemented advanced systems to identify risks and opportunities based on these analyses. Increased top level management commitment to the quality management system (QMS) means that the entire organisation has an overview of the QMS and different input and ideas can be contributed by people in management positions. The increased focus on risk based approach involved mapping all of Bonfiglioli’s processes and identifying key risk areas, which will be the subject of continual improvement plans within the QMS. This risk analysis, which has been implemented over that last four months, is a tool that is continually monitored, used and updated to drive the continuous improvement of the QMS. To heighten customer-responsiveness, and to complement the engineering facilities of its national Headquarters in Sydney, Bonfiglioli is also expanding its New Zealand branch with a 25% bigger warehouse, workshop and freight transitioning area as part of an overall plan to improve logistics, optimise stock availability and better serve customer needs. Bonfiglioli Transmission Australia custom-engineered heavy drives have won national awards for its innovation and response to local conditions, including the gears, motors and drives category in the Bulk Handling Awards, which it won recently for the third year in a row.
