Originally derived from Japanese ‘six sigma’ practices, each ‘S’ in the 5S programme has an important meaning and objective: 1. Sort Clearing up your workplace, keeping only what you need - it is not about having a lot of equipment, but having the right equipment. 2. Set in Order Organise, identify and arrange everything in your workplace, developing storage systems and processes to assist this. 3. Shine Regularly clean and maintain your equipment and work environment, as this promotes responsibility and efficiency. 4. Standardise: Make sure everyone is doing the same thing in the same way, by developing SOPs to ensure consistency, which helps ensure the best outcomes on a regular basis. 5. Sustain Ensure adherence to the system to maintain a safe and efficient workplace, put in place a review and assessment process to ensure the system is working and sustainable. Wells signage and storage systems make it easy to implement 5S in your work place, and its team members have a great deal of experience in implementing best practice when it comes to colour-coding and Vikan cleaning equipment. They can even develop shadow board storage systems for tools and machine parts, and have a large library of images that can be custom-configured as a heavy-duty shadow board for their client’s exact needs, including wording, colours, products and any other important instructional notes. The process is simple and begins with an 'obligation free' site hygiene 5S survey. From this a report is generated, and suggestions offered on best practice and implementation.
