During the process of turning offal from the slaughter house into meat meal, the small capsules left in the livestock’s stomach at the time of slaughter are ground up by the mills and grinders in the facility, causing metal contamination which in turn can, if not detected and removed, cause considerable damage for the companies involved. These damages can include financial loss, customer complaints, brand name and equipment damage, and a potential product recall – not to mention the potential harm to pets and livestock that consume the final product. In 2013, MAGNATTACK Global became involved in the meal industry when approached by a rendering company experiencing serious contamination issues in their final meat meal product. Very sharp tiny metal fragments had left the client with a serious need for foreign matter control. Working closely with the client to assess the risks involved and determine the best magnetic solution to meet requirements, MAGNATTACK Global was able to provide an answer to the problem – a specially customised MAGRAM self-cleaning separator. Since then, many years of research, trials and development has ensured maximum extraction of foreign matter and metal contamination. In fact, the satisfied client says the MAG-RAM unit has provided a positive reduction in risk and gave them “a safer, much cleaner and more valuable product than before – a highly recommended innovation.” The MAG-RAM supercedes ordinary grate magnets and overcomes problems inherent with conventional self-cleaning designs and cuts manual cleaning labour time; is able to clean one bar at a time instead of entire rows; more contact of the product with cleaned magnet surface; can be installed in difficult-to-access locations; constant efficiency; adjustable cleaning parameters; OSHA handling hazards eliminated with safer cleaning procedures; endorsed by HACCP International; proven anti-abrasion features; and retracts finer fragments than the grate magnet. The system is now used extensively across Australia, New Zealand and the United States, and recently received recognition and publicity from the Australian Renderers Association for innovation and success.
