ENGINEERING IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY FOOD FOR THOUGHT IMPROVING OPERATING COST IN FOOD PROCESSING Working closely with the HCD Flow Technology team, Gates has developed a range of drive system solutions specifically designed to suit New Zealand’s food processing industry. HCD Flow Technology pride themselves on offering the highest levels of technical support and service available in New Zealand. “With food processing facilities charged with moving many thousands of products per day, the importance of optimizing production, while satisfying strict FSANZ sanitation standards, cannot be overstated,” says Phil Aitken, product application engineer, Gates Australia. Gates Mectrol food grade urethane belts sit at the core of the range and represents the next generation of food processing. Featuring a stable base belt construction and available in multiple tooth configurations means that production managers have a wide range of custom options to suit their specific requirements. “Our innovative design means that our belts are faster and easier to clean as there is 43% less surface area that requires wash down when compared to traditional plastic modular belts,” said Phil. “All our belts are appropriate for ‘clean in place’ (CIP) cleaning protocol providing significant savings in water consumption and labour costs.” A closer look at the range reinforces these claims. PosiClean food grade urethane belts have proven to sharply reduce downtime, wastewater and maintenance costs with clean-in-place capabilities. They are also resistant to elongation, unlike older style urethane homogenous belts. “We have recoded water savings of more than 2000 litres per year for every foot of 24” wide plastic modular belting replaced with PosiClean,” Mr Aitken says. “Our Kevlar belt tension members stabilise belt properties under all lengths, loads and temperatures to prevent elongation, eliminating the need for additional welds resulting from having to eliminate additional belt in the conveyor return way.” Another product in the range is the CenterClean food grade urethane belt; ideal for troughing due to a row of 75 mm wide teeth in the centre of the belt and reinforced with Kevlar belt tension members which PRODUCT GUIDE TARGETS INDUSTRY EXHIBITION The 50 page, full-colour product guide features EQM's extensive product range including many types of conveyors, stainless steel geardrives, STM gearboxes, rotary tables and packing and labeling equipment. “We have a huge range of equipment that lifts the performance of food manufacturers so we’ve simplified the product guide and have included a wide range of case studies that showcase the performance of our equipment,” says a company spokesperson. Along with the launch of the free product guide, EQM will have some of its latest innovative equipment on display at the exhibition. “We want to ensure that people can see the equipment in action. We will have a punnet labeling line with a rotary accumulation table and a new bottle/pottle all-in-one 22 September 2016 accumulator descrambler feed by a T-Track conveyor fitted with the latest model ABI stainless steel geardrive.” Other equipment showcased will be stainless steel geardrives, STM gearboxes and Challenge transmission products, N-Track hygienic belt conveyors, T-Track slat chain bottle conveyors, descramblers, rotary tables and Dix punnet and fruit labeling equipment. EQM will also profile its turnkey solutions for developing food technology facilities and can provide initial layout drawings, individual conveyor concept designs, 3D modeling of the production line, through to importing or construction, assembly and installation of equipment and full food packing systems.
