Coresteel’s innovative, nested, tapered box beam (TBB) is a significant advance in portal frame technology. The design has outstanding spanning capabilities, while remaining cost-effective, sleek, stylish and versatile. Bird and vermin-resistant properties add to the benefits, as does Coresteel’s ability to provide the full turn-key package or to be involved with your project at any specific stage. Coresteel Buildings is leading the way in the large commercial and industrial building market, and operators in the food industry are excited at the possibilities the unique system presents. Facilities built for Coresteel customers in the dairy, packaged food, wine, honey, kumara, potato and onion industries have proved the capabilities of the TBB. The TBB is manufactured by folding two halves of flat steel plate and welding them together to form a box. The box is tapered through its length, utilising only the amount of steel required for any given design, without affecting structural integrity. “As the tapered box beam is a sealed hollow section, it is bird and vermin-resistant, meaning it provides no surfaces for birds to roost or vermin to run along, when purlins are embedded. This feature is always a winner with our customers in the food industry and was a major selling point when we built Innovative, nested, tapered design Outstanding spanning capabilities Cost-effective Sleek, stylish and versatile Quick to install Bird and vermin-resistant 20 September 2016 a processing facility for food giant Griffins, and an additional storage facility that is currently underway,” says Haemish Reid, general manager - NZ, Coresteel Buildings. This design feature also reduces the weight and square face meterage for paint area. Paint coverage is typically 28% less than I-beams, which creates cost-savings, especially where high-level paint systems are specified. The TBB allows you to make the most of each and every square metre of your building, boasting simply supported spans larger than previously thought possible. To date Coresteel’s largest span is 51 metre simply supported, while with props, span sizes are unlimited. The Balle Brother’s potato and onion storage facility incorporated the bracketless, streamlined design, which meant they could utilise more of the available space within their building’s floor and ceiling area, for food storage and when operating large vehicles and machinery. Coresteel can take care of as much or as little of your project as needed. Full turn-key projects guarantee significant cost savings in engineering due to our custom-built software. Yet Coresteel can also provide any one part of the project, including simply supplying the engineering and portal frame members erected.
