Mark Gurney www.engineeringnews.co.nz 27 VANZ Conference promises to be an unforgettable event Is the reliability of industrial plants or facilities of interest to you?  Would you like to learn how to reduce costs, increase capacity, and reduce the number of safety and environmental incidents? Well, one of New Zealand’s most important industrial conferences is in just over two months. The Vibrations Association of New Zealand, or VANZ, will hold its annual conference in Queenstown from May 10th to the 13th.   With two international speakers, two streams of local and Australian presentations, and the roundtable and networking sessions where attendees get to discuss their unique challenges, this conference provides a unique opportunity to learn more about the field of condition monitoring and reliability improvement and come away with practical tips and techniques that can be applied immediately with great financial benefit. The first day of the conference is a first in New Zealand. We call it the ‘Awareness Day’, but this year we have two parallel streams. The first stream is aimed at management and practitioners striving to implement a successful reliability improvement programme.  In the ‘Asset Management Awareness Day’ you will experience a sequence of presentations that begin with the financial justification for reliability improvement and take you stepby step through all of the key elements of a successful initiative. In parallel, at the ‘Practical Hands-on Awareness Day stream, attendees will get hands’-on experience with some of the tools used to improve reliability, and learn about bearing and seal maintenance and reliability, and learn about best practice lubrication techniques. We are proud of all of the speakers at this year’s conference, and our keynote speakers include Tod Baer from Minnkota Power in United States and Mark Gurney, previously of Murray Goulburn Corporation. Tod and Mark have years of experience leading successful reliability improvement initiatives and are both passionate about helping others to achieve success in their programs. We will also have Tom Murphy, international expert on ultrasound testing techniques, and Daré Petreski, a renowned speaker and managing director of Delta Asset Reliability.  The president of VANZ, and international speaker, Jason Tranter, will also deliver key presentations.
