The integration of its focused
bronze foundry with its leadingedge
machining facility enables
it to compete globally. It has sold
machined components to North
America for decades, what it is
most proud of now is its ability to
also sell machined components to
the global industrial powerhouses
of Germany, China and Japan.
To compete in these countries,
you have to be truly globally
competitive.
“Although our brand is not a
household name, we are known
throughout the industrial world
as one of the premium bronze
component manufacturers,”
says managing director, Gordon
Sutherland. The space the
company operates within and
who it does business with further
exemplify an engineering firm on
top of the world, down under. Key
market segments include original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs)
in mining, construction, marine
propulsion, rail and transmission
systems. ‘Blue Chip’ global
customers include Caterpillar,
General Electric, Mercury
Marine, Yamaha, Eaton, Cardwell
Westinghouse, Komatsu, SEW
Eurodrive, Siemens and Liebherr
Mining to name a few.
This year Fraser’s celebrates
its 80th year in business as it
works through its largest capital
investment cycle for a number of
years. This has included upgrade
and replacements of specialist twin
turret, twin spindle and sliding head
lathes, new B axis machining centre
with associated robotic loading
systems capable of remotely
loading 70kg work pieces.
In the foundry, they are installing
new vertical and centrifugal casting
machines that will take the casting
capability to 1.6 metre diameter.
