customer requirement,” says Kevin.
He says that it’s partnerships with
quality brands and their supply
companies. “Lang Work Holding
had been earlier integrated into
the plant and further investment
into their technology has reduced
setup times and opened up new
possibilities for machining complex
components”
THE FUTURE – BRIGHT
AND PRECISE
The installation of machines and
componentry has meant that WGD
can deliver way beyond capacities
of the past – further exceeding
customer expectations.
“There are two really great
features that stand out to me in
the machining configuration. For
example, Quick EIA means you
can open a graphic of the program
toolpath and simply touch the line
that needs editing. The control
then quickly jumps to that part of
the program and you modify the
program on the fly at that very
point .. there is also a program
analysis function the can highlight
any problems. This saves an
amazing amount of time,” says
Brian.
This allows the machine
performance affecting accuracy,
speed and smoothness, to be
fine-tuned according to the type
of component and machining
operation being machined.
The cutting condition selection
function makes it easy to tune the
parameter settings on the machine
to correspond with the workpiece
material and application at hand.
Such dynamics support precision
across the entire program while
improving throughput.
“Also the machining requirement can
be adjusted on the touch screen by a
slider bar. If accuracy is what you are
chasing this can be controlled just by
a simple to use touch screen slider.
It can be used to adjust the relevant
parameter slider on the touch screen
or you can preset them and assign
a number which you call up in your
CAM package; it works really well,”
says Brian.
“A balance between speed and
accuracy is always the question;
for example when we are roughing ,
speed is more important, yet when
finishing, the accuracy and surface
requirement is the focus,” Brian adds.
“All the complex parameter changes
required to achieve this in other
systems have gone, and tuning the
machine to my required machining
setup can all be done on the fly with
the slider bar choices. I can also
call them in the program, or choose
factory presets or create our own,
which we have done. I now have full
control over my machine, how fast it
is or how smooth it is.“
The company now has what it
believes are the best machines
for the diverse array of products it
makes. Combine that with the right
people and 50 years of service
beyond compare and it’s a recipe that
is sure to hold WGD in great stead for
another 50 years to come.
