In 2018, New Zealand suffered 42
workplace fatalities and over 4,200
reported notifiable incidents. Despite
the goal to significantly reduce
workplace harm, less than halfway
through the 2019 year we have already seen 23
reported workplace fatalities.
Being safe at work is a joint responsibility, from
using the correct PPE and adopting best practice
safety process right through to understanding the
mental and physical heath of the people in your
workplace. After all, at the end of a work day, we
all want to return home safe to our families and
loved ones, don’t we?
The National Safety Show is held every year at
ASB showgrounds by XPO Exhibitions and is
NZ’s largest trade show dedicated to workplace

Layher, one of the feature exhibitors at the show
is the world’s largest scaffolding manufacturer.
“We do it so well, in fact, you could be forgiven
for thinking that’s all we do. That’s part of it,
but there is so much more. When you choose
Layher, you’re tapping into the most advanced
scaffolding design and engineering resource in
the world,” says Paul Brittain-Morby, marketing
Manager at Layer. You can see Layer at stand
145 where they will be demonstrating a selection
of innovative scaffolding products and safe
access solutions.
For those who are working with machines, there
will be two half day courses available thanks to
the Employers Manufacturers Association
(EMA). “This course was designed as the
result of a recent WorkSafe Enforceable
Undertaking. It is a must for any business
where plant and machinery is in operation,
and anyone wanting to understand how
to comply with WorkSafe NZ’s Safe Use of
Machinery Harm Reduction Programme,”
says Joe Boyle from EMA.
