PROFILE OF SUCCESS DECADES OF THE ‘RIGHT STUFF’ Nearly three decades on since Brian Scott opened the doors of Scott Machinery in 1989 and the company continues to deliver the same service, advice and exceptional machinery to the engineering market that Brian made it a priority to do – providing the right stuff; the critical machinery you need to help your business thrive. Today, it has built upon his ethos, and stands tall in an engineering marketplace with a dedicated focus of going from strength to strength to offer more for its expansive client base. Brian started out with just two employees and a showroom in Christchurch, and he is proud of what he has built; Scott Machinery now with 18 employees and three branches. Not content with Christchurch, a decision was made and Brian’s son Logan opened the Auckland branch in 2011, then the Dunedin branch followed the next year. It’s a trait of the Scott’s – to never sit still -and in keeping with that mantra the company has just purchased a new Auckland premise in East Tamaki to allow it to better serve the North Island market and carry more stock in both Islands. To ensure all bases are covered, Scott Machinery also has a dedicated second-hand department that specialises in purchasing and trading used machinery, reconditioning and on selling to the wide range of customers that aren’t looking to spend money on new machinery. “This is also a great way for customers to trade in their used machinery and save money on new purchases,” says Brian. “As the engineering industry continues to advance in technology, Scott Machinery is ensuring we don’t get left behind by working with our key suppliers to continually stock machines with the 8 Profile of Success 2018 latest technological advances. This will be evident at EMEX in 2018 with several next generation machines on display all designed to improve productivity and ultimately the purchasers bottom line.” The 100% electrically driven Dener Servo press brake produced in Turkey has taken the traditional hydraulic press brake to the drawing board and completely redesigned it to be faster, quieter, more energy efficient and eco-friendly. With no hydraulic oil, filters, seals, valves or cylinders the Servo press brake considerably cuts maintenance costs and down time over a traditional hydraulic machine. The innovative ‘O’ frame design eliminates the restrictions caused by traditional press brake frames meaning it can bend at its full bending length without throat interference. Following on with the Servo technology is the new Microweily TY-1640SV Servo driven lathe. This CNC like lathe uses electronic hand wheels to control its servo driven X & Z axes resulting in an extremely high degree of feel, sensitivity and accuracy while turning. It also boasts an extremely user-friendly controller with several modes including OD and ID turning, arc turning, threading and taper turning without the need for additional attachments. The Swiss made Jorn’s TwinMatic-Pro double bend CNC folder that has been brought by Graham Hill Roofing Ltd in Christchurch will also be an impressive machine to see on site at EMEX, with a bending length of 6.4m it will be hard to miss. With the ability to bend both up and down this CNC folder brings a new level of productivity to roofing and sheet metal companies allowing the material to be folded both ways without the operator having to stop the process to flip the job to achieve opposite direction bends. As the engineering industry in New Zealand continues to advance and grow, so does Scott Machinery to ensure it’s serving the industry to the highest possible level with the right machinery. The right stuff.
