Gloster Engineering is a Hamiltonbased precision engineering company specialising in high quality production, delivered on schedule. The company’s core purpose is to create the 25th hour for its extensive and varied customer base. This focus on time is a key feature of Gloster Engineering – getting the job done that will effectively save your business time and producing precision components quickly, so you can prioritise what’s important. With experts in 3D CAD, and a history making componentry for many industries, Gloster has the skill, experience and question/answer culture to give you absolute peaceof mind. Total CNC Products is a specialist in CNC machines, CNC machine tools, and accessories, and quality cutting tools. It supplies the best solution to your machining requirements and guarantees the performance of your CNC machine by building long term customer partnerships through the service and support team. Gloster Engineering directors Dave Clapson (Left), Hans Kruiswijk (Right) and Total CNC business second-hand machines that aren’t our brands, got these machines up to scratch and serviced them, installed them then helped Glosters staff with any training or knowledge that they required. We’re often involved with changing these machines, tweaking them, adding bar feeders and the likes so that Gloster’s have machines that best suit their needs.” Hans is very aware and very appreciative of the lengths that Total CNC and Rob go to. But it’s not just Rob that goes that extra mile. “A great example was a second-hand Victor mill - and it didn’t look that flash and Total CNC’s owner Rodney Oxford took the reigns on the project, looked at it told us yes, it will more than do the job. He could have tried to sell us a new machine, but he knew this machine was all we needed for our requirements – that’s exceptional. That’s the kind of guys they are, both him and Rob.” But this is the kind of relationship that goes far beyond machines, too. Rob says it’s very much an immersed relationship. “Rodney and Gloster’s owner Dave Clapson talk from a management perspective and I engage with Hans in a very much hands-on role, making sure the service and knowledge I have can impact positivity on their business model. It’s way beyond merely supplying a machine.” He describes the relation as being multi-facet, multi-point and multi-contact.” I do most of the enquiries regarding CNC Machines, Dave and Rodney are always bouncing business-style ideas of each other,” he says, which includes ways the two companies can improve what they bring to each other and ways that Total CNC can ensure Gloster get the most out of the relationship. And because of it, Gloster’s has complete confidence in their advice. Glosters has 23 staff including management with a factory comprising cellular units that include milling, one-off production, and turning, which has been split up based on a material basis (small and larger diameter). “We do automotive, aircraft parts, commercial dishwashers, gas, fruit sorting and grading machines… the variety of work is extensive and because of that we often have unique process obstacles that we have to overcome and that’s when we turn to our business partners for their help. Together we come up with solutions that work,” explains Hans. Hans’ response is typical though of the Kiwi engineering firm that undersells itself and instead gives great praise to its partners. Gloster itself, is an exceptional entity. A case in point is a joint project involving Fonterra and Panasonic that the company stumbled upon when Panasonic engineers came through the workshop. They needed a tablet mount for development specialist Rob Bennett discuss parts made on the Victor V55 twin pallet machining centre. www.engineeringnews.co.nz 21
