TE PA WINES Marlborough man Haysley MacDonald planted vines on his family’s land on the historic Wairau Bar in 2003, with the vision of producing a premium range of wines to connect the taste of te Pa with wine lovers all over the world. Since releasing its critically acclaimed te Pa Sauvignon Blanc in 2011, the range is overseen by winemakers Liam McElhinney and Sam Bennett, and now includes a barrique fermented Sauvignon Blanc ‘Oke’, a luscious Pinot Noir Rosé, a Gold Medal Pinot Noir and a trophy-winning Pinot Gris. te Pa’s inaugural 2015 Chardonnay won an outstanding 96 points and a gold medal at the Decanter Wine Awards in 2016, which put the brand firmly on the international stage. Today, te Pa is a rapidly growing international business and brand with around 500ha of vineyards across the renowned Marlborough wine region. With two 68 ANNUAL DIRECTORY 2017 new wine brands added to its roster in recent years - the distinctive Koha label, and more recently the very accessibly priced Pa Road range of wines – Te Pa Family Vineyards is continuing its extraordinary journey to becoming one of the world’s leading family-owned wine producers. Quality is at the heart of te Pa’s offering; the Pa Road 2014 Pinot Noir won the highest award at the Marlborough Wine Show, taking out the trophy for Champion Wine of the Show, and more recently two of te Pa wines won gold medals at the Sydney International Wine Competition. Restaurants and retailers are flocking to stock the diverse range of wines under the te Pa banner, which are represented by Beverage Brothers Ltd. But no matter the heights to which te Pa Family Vineyards soars, the taste of home is always unmistakable. www.tepawines.com LITTLE ISLAND COCONUT CREAMERY Started by Tommy Holden and James Crow in 2010, Little Island Coconut Creamery has continued to develop its products and distribute them across the country in 2016, taking on the big players in the dairy industry with its coconut milk-based milk and ice cream alternatives. Holden and Crow – two mates who decided to create a better summer treat for their families – have come a long way since, thanks to their natural dairy, gluten, nut and soy-free products. The coconut, they say, contains everything needed for those seeking plant-based alternatives for health, lifestyle and ethical reasons, and they work hard to source the best ingredients from ethical, organic and Fairtrade suppliers so they can help provide fair wages and better conditions for growers and their families. More flavours are on the horizon, so stay tuned. www.littleislandcreamery.com BEST OF THE BEST “Potential sends shivers down the spine” - Nominator
