OUR YOUNG ONES THE FINALISTS IN THE NZ FOOD AWARDS FOR 2017 HAVE JUST BEEN ANNOUNCED, www.foodtechnology.co.nz 3 Kathryn Calvert Editor NZ FOODTechnology Rachel Hunter was just 17 when she was plucked from the suburban streets of Auckland, transformed into a global ambassador for Tip Top Trumpets and propelled onto the world stage as our very own supermodel. Fast forward a few decades and one thing is clear – LA-based Hunter has never forgotten her roots and the people that helped take her to the top and, by all accounts, she’s still a humble Glenfield girl at heart – as our page 5 story attests. But as an industry, we’ve got to ask ourselves…will our global food and beverage superstars of the future look back on our support with such affection? Those involved with competitions aiming to reward and spotlight upcoming leaders know all too well how hard it is to get sponsor funding and interest, and they need our help. Check out their plea on page 14, and don’t forget to read our fascinating story about the global cost of meat on page 30. Have a great September/October.
