It is said that iHemp seed is allergen free, non- GMO, gluten free, has a very low phytic acid content (if any), no Trypsin inhibitors and only minute traces of THC. The ideal fat content of 3:1 Omega 6 to Omega 3 is naturally occurring in hemp seed, which is also a good source of soluble and insoluble fibre, as well as a great source of vitamins A, B1, B2, D and E; phosphorous; potassium magnesium; and zinc. Hemp seeds are mainly fat and protein, containing 21 amino acids, including all nine of the essentials. Hemp seeds are rich in edible oil, containing omega-6, omega-3 and gamma-linolenic acid, omega-6 (GLA) and stearidonic acid, and omega-3 (SDA). A low THC arable crop of iHemp also produces leaf and flowering tops which are used internationally as a food along with the seed. The current variation to the food code limits us to only seed for human consumption. However, this is a start, with consumers having access to a new source of nutritious fat and protein, but it means the high value nutritional products from the terpenes, flavonoids and cannabinoids found in the leaf and flowering tops will not be available for humans. THC is one of more than 100 cannabinoids found in cannabis. Many cannabinoids come in two forms – one with an acid such as THC, WATCH OUT FOR THE WAVE A technology tsunami is set to change the way New Zealand agricultural producers do business, according to ANZ’s rural economist Con Williams The number of apps and innovations designed to help improve agricultural businesses has exploded in recent years…a technology tsunami is upon the primary sectors. From meeting consumer demands around how food is produced, to adapting to changing regulatory requirements, technology is poised to play a much bigger role in farm management. Farmers and growers need to embrace the changes new technology brings, as they are all aimed at increasing the bottom line, and perhaps just as importantly, making it easier to do business. Adopting a new piece of technology into a business can sometimes involve a leap of faith for the non-tech savvy. But this can be eased by doing some research into the various apps on offer, and many of them offer a free trial to test them out. The recent Fieldays’ Innovation Pavilion offered everything from health and safety apps, farm management, finance and compliance through to robotic fruit pickers and drone technology on show. With the rate of change only set to expand over coming years, mastering the use of technology within a business will be a key part of success in the future. Producers should expect more change around traceability, food quality, animal welfare and environmental issues driven by both consumer demands and local regulations. I think New Zealand industries want to do the right thing, and most farmers are keen to adapt farm practices and invest where they can to address societal and consumer concerns. Technology plays a critical part in helping them do that. and THC-A. In the A form, when the plant is growing, the THC is non-psychoactive. iHemp has hardly any THC present. European and North American markets are tapping into this potential in the form of juices. The fresh leaf and flowering tops are being diverted from the animal feed market and used to produce a high value beverage. iHemp contains more than 120 terpenes (including pinene, myrcene, limonene, acaryophy llene, beta caryophyllene and linalool) and many phenolic compounds and flavonoids (cannflavine A, cannflavine B, cannflavine C, vitexin, isovitexin, apigenin, kaempferol, quercetin, luteolin and orientin). More than 20 flavonoids are also present and all these bio active compounds occur naturally in the plant. Therefore, when the whole plant is used, all the nutritious benefits are available. This is known by the medicinal cannabis people as the entourage effect, whereby the synergistic relationship of all the constituents in the plant work together to give the body what it needs.
