Powered by three of the world’s trade show leaders – PACK EXPO, Anuga and the International Dairy Foods Association – ProFood Tech has been acclaimed as the most comprehensive food and beverage show in North America. PACK EXPO producer Jorge Izquierdo says markets, channels and technology are changing the way consumers purchase and consume food, and in the next 15 years, significant changes to food manufacturing and sourcing will be seen. “Shorter supply chains because of transportation expense, growth of local production, benefits of microtechnology and nanotechnology for more sustainable production of food and improved taste, as well as stronger competition for land use as food, fuel and fibre battle for space,” he predicts. The industry is currently served by a relatively small amount of global producers spanning multiple food verticals and channels, although cross-border investments are seeing mergers to achieve growth. The majority of foodprocessing establishments are small plants (66%), with more than threequarters of total value of shipments represented by large plants. Izquierdo says food manufacturers are predicting an increase in automation and robotics due to a need for more flexible machinery to run manufacturing lines more efficiently. Nearly three-quarters of companies are actively exploring new processing technologies to improve food quality, eliminate contamination and prolong shelf life; and nearly half expect to increase spending on equipment in the next two years. Izquierdo says processors can look to source much of this technology at the ProFood Tech event, which will be unprecedented in its ability to bring the industry together and address key issues facing food and beverage processing operators. It is the only US event focused exclusively on all food and beverage sectors.Transcending market sectors and showcasing cuttingedge technologies and innovative solutions, ProFood Tech will include 6000 processing professionals, 400- plus of the world’s top suppliers, 150,000 sq ft of exhibit floor and 45 hours of educational programming.
