PINOT NOIR PARTY Hollywood actor Sam Neil…Tool frontman Maynard Keenan…the world’s most influential wine commentator Jancis Robinson OBE…Japanese Master of Wine Kenichi Ohashi…Kiwi human treasure Dame Anne Salmond…former Masterchef NZ judge and chef Josh Emett…the list could go on and on. Pinot Noir 2017, held in Wellington earlier this month and described as the best Pinot Noir event on the planet, was a veritable treat of the greatest wine minds around – all melding together with around 115 of New Zealand’s top Pinot Noir producers. 38 FEBRUARY 2017 For those who snapped up tickets months before the event opened its door, it was a rare chance to meet the makers behind the labels, sample our wineries’ finest, and get an insight into the future of the genre. Neil, himself a wellknown winery owner, says it was wonderful to be back in Wellington for Pinot Noir 2017, a must for the wine industry and anyone involved in producing, selling or writing about Pinot Noir. “I look forward to reconnecting with Pinot-affiliated friends from all over the world – always a colourful mix of fellow farmers, aficionados and revellers. It’s wine we’re celebrating, so there’s a tendency to have some fun along the way,” he says. More than 600 of the most influential wine writers, industry experts and imbibers from 20 countries joined the Wellington party, with Pinot Noir NZ chair Ben Glover saying three years of planning was worth the wait to “immerse ourselves in the most inspiring and cerebral grape variety on the planet.” More than 650 people attended the Pinot Palooza event on the waterfront. www.pinotnz.co.nz See the digital version to view the image gallery of the event.
