OUTSTANDING DAIRY WOMEN SOUGHT Five award-winning women working in the dairy industry will be joined by a sixth in May when the Dairy Woman of the Year for 2017 winner is announced. Nominations are now open for the sixth annual event run by the Dairy Women’s Network, and trustee Alison Gibb says the winner will be in great company with the five previous winners – Taranaki-King Country National MP Barbara Kuriger, Milk New Zealand chief executive Justine Kidd, Agri-Women’s Development Trust chair Charmaine O’Shea, Westland Milk Products Board member Katie Milne and Landcorp Farming business manager Rebecca Keoghan. “There is no shortage of potential winners out there doing amazing things in the industry every day,” Gibb says. “It’s just that these women often don’t realise that what they are doing is exceptional because they are driven by their own beliefs and passions without knowing the effect they are having on the wider industry at the time and in the future.” This year’s winner, who will be announced at the Network’s 22 FEBRUARY 2017 conference in Queenstown in May, will be someone who is passionate about the industry, is a leader with her attitude and who is out there making things happen beyond the farm gate and beyond her community, sponsor Fonterra says. “The Dairy Woman of the Year is the only award of its kind in the dairy industry. There are plenty of industry awards – but nothing acknowledging the huge contribution women make,” Gibb says. “Nominators don’t need to be female, or even DWN members. They might be bank managers, colleagues, neighbours, sales reps – it doesn’t matter.” The judging panel comprises a DWN trustee representative, previous Dairy Women of the Year, a Fonterra representative and one of the Network’s prime partners. Sanitation directly impacts downstream processing and has measurable effects on the profitability of a product. Food Tech Solutions offers a number of innovative ways to ensure that your products are of the highest quality. The Novalum luminometer by Charm Sciences is a rapid, highly sensitive ATP-detection system designed to improve on existing cleaning systems, ensuring your product maintains the highest quality. With enhanced sensitivity to ATP on a surface compared with other products, it detects potential contaminants earlier at a lower concentration. This allows preventative action to be taken long before a problem arises, resulting in an improved end product. With easily programmable, customised plans for your production facility, you can ensure no surface goes uncleaned. With customisable detection limits, you can go even further, differentiating between low and high risk surfaces. Results are recorded within the device and easily uploaded and presented in report format, handing you control over your own auditing processes.
