PROFILE OF SUCCESS Based in Christchurch, the Stainless Steel & Aluminium Welding Academy caters for all types of welding and is the right place for your staff or students to learn how to weld the right way, producing best results. The Academy was established in 1998, and has been through many changes as the company adapted to suit the needs of its growing customer base. “We pride ourselves on being friendly and approachable, with fully qualified and experienced welding tutors,” says the company. The Welding Academy recently appointed Mike Latimer to the team in the role of manager and senior tutor. Mike has had many years welding and engineering experience, qualified as a fitter welder and his experience and know-how adds valuable skillsets to what the Academy can provide. He 48 December 2017 has managed his own successful manufacturing company in Christchurch and brings multiple facets to the Academy. “Over the last year the Welding Academy has seen a marked increase in enquiries for AS/ NZS2980 Trade Welding Certificates. We cater for all welding types in all positions including ASME 9. These can be conducted onsite or at the Welding Academy. For companies requiring WPS and PQRs, the Academy can accommodate these either onsite or at the Welding Academy’s premises. Following consultation to meet its customers needs, the Welding Academy has invested in three new Kemppi Mig Welders. These award-winning welders were chosen for their ease of use and weld quality. “We were very happy to work with Matt Jansen from NZ Welding Supplies and Matt Heron from Kemppi, NZ, to secure the supply of these welding machines.” KEMPPI KEMPACT RA WERE CHOSEN FOR THE FOLLOWING: • Small footprint allowing more Welding Bays to be utilised at our Training Academy • Reliable repeatable Arc quality • East of adjustment with ergonomic control panel at an easy to reach height on the machine • Clearly stated wire feed and voltage settings to conform to Weld Procedure Specification • Local service and support through NZ Welder Supplies. “Along with a wide range of NZQA Unit Standards that we teach, we also introduced the National Certificate in Welding Levels 3 and 4 in 2016. This programme is proving to be very successful in providing trained welders for the New Zealand work force.” In conjunction with the National Certificates in Welding, the Welding Academy offers Recognition of Prior Learning for persons with previous qualifications and welding experience. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING Ken Culverwell of EKC Holdings, provides this to experienced welders through the Welding Academy for National Certificates in Welding Level 3 and Level 4.
