YOU CAN WIN A SHARE OF $30,000+ IN CASH AND PRIZES… AND GROWING! FREE ENTRY We’re looking for New Zealand’s best engineers to design and build a Kiwi. The Great Kiwi Engineering Challenge is about innovation in our engineering and manufacturing industries so test your mettle and your metal up against other workshops (Professional category) and tertiary students (Student category) throughout New Zealand. A kiwi, made by Kiwis for Kiwis. Ripper! WHAT? Engineer a kiwi. But not any kiwi, a kiwi we can all be proud of. Your entry can incorporate any engineering discipline from CNC machined, robotics, 3D printed, welded… the choice is yours. It must fit inside a virtual one cubed metre space. Particular judging emphasis will be on craftsmanship, innovation, and great use of the Kiwi No. 8 wire mentality. Kiwis can exhibit moving parts or be static. There are two categories and entries can be from individuals or teams: Professional – currently employed in the wider engineering field. Current prize level $25,000+ cash and prizes. Student – currently attending a tertiary/polytech institution and studying an engineering discipline. Current prize level $5,000+ cash and prizes. WHEN? October 1 – March 9. Build time has begun. Entry opened October 1 and a final video submission of your entry must be entered by no later than Friday, March 9 at 5pm. The top five finalists in each category (Professional and Student) will have their entry shipped to Auckland for the final judging process. WHERE? Finalists to be exhibited at EMEX 2018(Auckland) in May. HOW? Get creative. You have a little over five months to work on and then finally submit a video of your kiwi entry. Materials are those that can be found in any good New Zealand engineering workshop. Disclaimer: Judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. Entry is open to anyone employed in New Zealand in the engineering field or students currently studying an engineering field (robotics, materials, machining, welding etc) at a qualified tertiary institution (University or Polytech).
