30 June 2017 A U T O M A T I O N AlfaRomeo DIGITISES WITH SMARTWATCH TECHNOLOGY Designed to improve and optimise work processes, workers on the line at Alfa Romeo’s FCA Cassino plant are now equipped with a Samsung smartwatch providing information about daily work load and the ability to communicate with fellow workers through the press of a button. The FCA plant at Cassino, Frosinone, Italy is the cradle of the new generation Alfa Romeo, responsible for producing the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio models. Alfa Romeo officially announced the digitalisation of its Cassino factory through its partnership with Samsung, aiming to deliver greater efficiency and better quality in Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’s Italian plants. Constructed in 1972, the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles plant at Cassino, Frosinone, Italy, has produced more than 7.3 million vehicles to date and is the cradle of the new generation Alfa Romeo, having recently been renovated for the production launch of the allnew Giulia. The joint venture between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Samsung aims to optimise the production process, as part of a global move to digitalise production plants, further upgrade assembly line efficiency and help improve the quality of work for production line staff. Specifically, the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier provides the capability for total integration with the FCA Manufacturing Execution System (MES), the IT system controlling the production system, the Samsung smartwatch is used as an item of working equipment on some sections of the production line.
