With a reputation as height safety specialists, Monkey Toe Group has recently delivered on a number of civil projects where its products were the best fit for the task at hand. Well known for its aluminium walkways, stairs, ladders, platforms and condenser mounts, the company also has a range of balustrade and handrail systems suited to a variety of situations. Glass and aluminium balustrading is finding increased demand with high-rise residential while the galvanised modular system is popular for a number of civil type applications. The new Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) facility is part of a $136 million upgrade of Watercare’s Mangere wastewater treatment plant. The BNR facility uses the same technology currently employed at the Mangere plant to remove nitrogen and phosphorus from the 58 May 2017 wastewater stream. Common sources of these nutrients include farm run-off, industrial discharges, storm water run-off, and human and animal waste. Monkey Toe was able to provide 3384m of the modular handrail system with a top rail, mid rail and kick rail to provide safe access over the crisscrossed concrete water tanks of the clarifiers and BNR system. The no-weld system comes to site flat packed and was easily installed by the McConnell Dowell and HEB Construction teams. Monkey Toe has done similar projects before including the Waimate West upgrade in Taranaki. Similar products were also used on the Taupiri bridge upgrade and the Mackays to Peka Peka four-lane expressway on the Kapiti Coast. “These handrail systems are hot galvanised to ensure their longevity,” says marketing manager, Jeff Poole. “They have quick install and lead Don’t put a foot wrong Safe & compliant roof access: Walkways | Platforms | Ladders | Glass Balustrades Handrails | Hatches | Condenser Mounts www.monkeytoe.co.nz | 0800 658 637 T R U S T I T W I T H YO U R L I F E EN172 CIVIL WORK, WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE FOR MONKEY TOE times due to their modular nature but can be customised to suit the project.” All Monkey Toe Group products are fully compliant with AS/NZS industry standards and many come with a lifetime warranty.
